How Much Does a Website Cost in South Africa in 2026?

If you have asked several South African website providers for quotations, you may have received completely different answers.

One person says R5,000.

Another says R10,000.

Another says R20,000 or more.

They may all call what they are offering a “business website”.

So how do you know whether you are getting a bargain, paying a fair price or simply paying too much?

The answer is not to compare the price alone.

Compare what you are actually getting for the money.

How much does a website cost in South Africa in 2026?

There is no single standard price for a website in South Africa.

Current South African pricing guides show a wide range. For example, one 2026 guide places basic brochure websites around R5,000–R15,000 and professional business websites around R10,000–R30,000+, while other published guides show even wider ranges depending on the provider, complexity and scope.

That does not mean the cheapest provider is bad.

It also does not mean the most expensive provider is automatically better.

It means you need to understand what is included.

Why can one website cost R6,500 and another R11,900?

Because you are not really buying a number of pages.

Two quotations may both say:

  • Home;
  • About;
  • Services;
  • Gallery; and
  • Contact.

On paper, they look almost identical.

But one quotation may cover little more than designing those pages.

Another may include the domain setup, hosting configuration, mobile optimisation, SSL, security configuration, backups, performance work, enquiry paths, launch support and ongoing website care.

That is why asking:

“How many pages do I get?”

is not enough.

A better question is:

“What happens before, during and after those pages are built?”

1. Will the website work properly on a phone?

A business website should not only look good on a large computer screen.

Your customers may first see it on a phone.

They should be able to quickly understand:

  • what your business does;
  • where you operate;
  • what services you provide;
  • whether your business looks credible; and
  • how to contact you.

Buttons should be easy to use. Text should be readable. Images should fit properly. Contact options should not be hidden.

A beautiful desktop website that becomes frustrating on a phone can still lose potential customers.

2. Does the website help customers trust your business?

Before contacting a business they do not know, customers often want reassurance.

They may want to see your services, previous work, contact details, location, business information and a professional presentation.

A good business website should answer the customer’s basic questions before they need to ask them.

The goal is not simply:

“Look at my beautiful website.”

The goal is:

“This is who we are. This is what we do. This is how we can help you. Here is how to contact us.”

3. Who handles the technical setup?

This is an area many business owners only discover after buying a website.

Someone still needs to deal with things such as:

  • the domain;
  • hosting;
  • DNS;
  • SSL;
  • backups;
  • security;
  • website performance; and
  • technical problems.

You do not need to become an IT expert to own a website.

But you should know who is responsible for these things.

If a quotation is cheaper because the customer is expected to manage some of the technical work themselves, that may be perfectly acceptable.

Just make sure you know that before you buy.

4. What happens if the website has a problem?

Ask this before paying:

“What happens after my website goes live?”

Does the provider offer support?

Are backups available?

Who helps if something stops working?

Are updates included?

What happens if you need to change your telephone number, services or staff information later?

Some providers build the website and hand it over.

Others provide ongoing care.

Neither model is automatically wrong — but they are not the same service, so they should not be compared only by price.

5. Does website security form part of the setup?

Small business owners should not need to understand every technical security tool behind their website.

But basic protection should still be considered.

For example, Find At Home uses Cloudflare as part of the infrastructure for websites we manage where appropriate.

Cloudflare provides services designed around website security, performance and reliability, including CDN, SSL and DDoS protection capabilities. Cloudflare also provides foundational services on its Free tier, while more advanced features are available through paid plans.

What does that mean to a business owner?

In simple terms:

Your website has another layer of technology helping to protect and deliver it.

You do not need to learn how Cloudflare works.

That is our job.

6. Are backups included?

Imagine spending money building a website and then discovering there is no recent backup when something goes wrong.

Ask your provider:

  • Are backups made?
  • How often?
  • Who manages them?
  • What happens if the website needs to be restored?

A backup is not exciting when you are buying a website.

It becomes extremely important on the day you need one.

7. Who owns the domain?

This is an important question that many businesses forget to ask.

Your domain is the address of your business online.

For example:

yourbusiness.co.za

Before agreeing to a website project, understand:

  • who registers the domain;
  • who manages it;
  • who pays the renewal;
  • what happens if you change providers; and
  • whether the domain can be transferred to you.

A professional arrangement should make ownership and management responsibilities clear.

A website nobody finds is still a problem

There is another issue that website quotations often overlook.

You can build a beautiful website.

But that does not automatically mean customers will find it.

A new website does not automatically appear at the top of Google, and no responsible website provider should promise guaranteed rankings or guaranteed enquiries.

This is one reason Find At Home approaches business websites differently.

Eligible Find At Home Website Packages include a Find At Home Listing for the first year.

That means your business can have:

Your own website

plus

your presence on Find At Home.

The website gives customers a professional place to understand your business.

The Find At Home Listing gives them another path to discover and contact you.

We do not promise a certain number of leads, customers or Google rankings.

We simply believe that a business should have more than one sensible way to be found online.

So, is a R11,900 website expensive?

The answer depends on what you are receiving.

R11,900 for a few pages with little technical setup or support may feel expensive.

R11,900 for a professionally built and managed business presence that includes technical setup, mobile-friendly design, protection, backups, support and additional business visibility is a different comparison.

So do not compare:

R6,500 versus R11,900.

Compare:

What exactly do I receive for R6,500 versus what exactly do I receive for R11,900?

That is a much better buying decision.

Website quote checklist: 12 questions to ask before you pay

Before accepting any website quotation, ask:

  1. How many pages are included?
  2. What exactly will be designed and built?
  3. Will the website work properly on mobile?
  4. Is the domain included, and who owns it?
  5. Who manages the hosting?
  6. Is SSL included?
  7. What website protection is included?
  8. Are backups included?
  9. What happens after launch?
  10. What changes are included and what costs extra?
  11. Are there ongoing annual or monthly costs?
  12. What is being done to help customers actually discover and contact the business?

Get the answers in writing.

Then compare quotations.

What does Find At Home include?

Find At Home does not position its Website Packages as simply buying pages on a screen.

Our aim is to give a business a professional online presence while taking care of much of the technical work behind it.

Depending on the selected package and accepted quotation, this can include:

  • professional website design;
  • mobile-friendly presentation;
  • agreed business pages;
  • customer enquiry and contact paths;
  • domain and managed hosting setup;
  • SSL;
  • essential website protection;
  • Cloudflare configuration where appropriate;
  • backups;
  • launch support;
  • first-year website care; and
  • a Find At Home Listing for the first year.

The exact scope, price and deliverables are confirmed in the quotation before the project begins.

The cheapest website is not always the cheapest solution

There is nothing wrong with choosing an inexpensive website when that is all the business needs.

A new business with a small budget may genuinely be better served by starting simple.

But understand what you are buying.

A cheap website that later needs to be rebuilt, repaired or moved can become more expensive.

Likewise, there is no reason to pay for complicated functionality your business does not need.

The goal is not to buy the cheapest website.

It is not to buy the most expensive website either.

The goal is to buy the right website for the business.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a basic website cost in South Africa?

Prices vary widely by provider and scope. Published South African 2026 guides commonly place simple or brochure-style websites in the several-thousand-rand range, with professional business websites often moving into five figures. Always compare what is included rather than relying on a price range alone.

Why are some website quotes so cheap?

The provider may use a simpler template, offer fewer pages, provide less custom work, exclude ongoing support or expect the customer to manage more of the technical setup. A lower price is not automatically bad — ask what is and is not included.

Do I need to pay monthly for a website?

Not always. Different providers use different models. Some charge once-off development plus separate hosting and maintenance costs, while others use monthly packages. Ask for all ongoing costs before accepting a quotation.

Does a website guarantee that I will get customers?

No. A website can improve how customers understand, trust and contact a business, but it cannot guarantee enquiries, sales or search rankings.

Does Find At Home build ecommerce websites?

No. Find At Home currently focuses on professional business websites rather than ecommerce projects.

Does Find At Home include a Listing with its Website Packages?

Eligible Find At Home Website Packages include a Find At Home Listing for the first year. The applicable package and quotation confirm exactly what is included.
